The pretty Stintino, located on the north-eastern coast of Sardinia, was founded in 1885 when the families of fishermen were evicted to make way for the penal colony on the island of Asinara. They then settled at Capo Falcone, thus founding the village whose name derives from the Sardinian “‘instintinu”, or “gut” because of the name given to the narrow inlet on which it arose.
In the past, a hamlet of Sassari became an autonomous municipality in 1988.
