Poetto Beach

Poetto beach is located just a few kilometres from the centre and port of Cagliari and extends from Margine Rosso, in the Quartu Sant'Elena coastline, to the Sella del Diavolo (Devil's Saddle), which adds to its charm when observing Marina Piccola from above. From the Spanish tower that stands at the top, known as 'del poeta' (of the poet), perhaps comes the name of the littoral, although the most plausible hypothesis is the derivation from the Spanish puerto (port). You can climb up to the 17th century tower by walking along the promontory from Calamosca, in just under an hour: a night visit is highly recommended.

The Poetto coastline is very wide, the water is clear and the sandy, shallow seabed for tens of metres is ideal for children to play in peace, but it is also an irrepressible attraction for long walks. Behind the beach you can freely walk, skate or cycle along a modern and well-equipped promenade: perfect for jogging, biking, rollerblading and skateboarding; while the characteristic kiosks near the sand offer refreshments and entertainment.

You will have toilets and showers at your disposal and if you come on holiday with your dogs, you will also find spaces reserved for them. The connection to the city is easy and the services are efficient: you will have access to bathing establishments, diving centres, sailing schools, boat rentals, beach tennis and volleyball courts, canoe trips, fast food outlets, restaurants, various businesses and even a fun fair, open all year round.

The Poetto Lido is ideal for wave surfing and kite surfing and hosts world-class events. It is also one of the main places for summer nightlife, thanks to the vast area it covers, including live music, dance classes, clubs and discos.

Today, Poetto is the undisputed 'sea' of Cagliari's hinterland, one of the largest city beaches in Europe, and among the most beautiful and frequented beaches on the island, a favourite destination for the people of Cagliari, both in summer and on any fine, sunny day throughout the year: a compulsory stop even simply for a coffee break or an aperitif accompanied by the sea breeze.
